The present book contains essays on the lives and teachings of the ten remarkable spiritual masters of our time.
Like the divinely inspired prophets in the past, these later day sages have also been showing us the superiority of the spiritual and eternal over the mundane and the transient. That the path of righteous leads to peace, happiness and salvation is part and parcel of their timeless message. The life and teachings of the following masters have been included in this book Mahatma Gandhi, Yogaswami, Sri Aurobindo, Ramana Maharshi, Swami Ramdas, Swami Siyananda, Paramahansa Yogananda, Srila Prabhupada, Peace Pilgrim, and Bishrul Hafi.
The book includes portraits of the masters and a glossary of the terms used in the book.
Susunaga Weeraperuma is a Doctor of Letters who enjoys living in the quietness of the medieval Provencal village of Les Arcs-sur-Argens in France. Born in Sri Lanka where he was raised in the Buddhist religion, Weeraperuma has been spending the major part of the life in England, Australia, Switzerland and France.
After taking a Master’s degree in Economics and Politics at London University, he qualified as a Librarian and thereafter became a senior member of staff in the British Library and the South Australian Parliamentary Library. It was during the period that he wrote several works on Library and the South Australian Parliamentary Library. It was during this period that he wrote several works on Library Science and complied an extensive Krishnamurti bibliography.
Following early retirement, Weeraperuma now devotes his time to contemplation, writing, yoga and gardening. The author of 18 published books including 2 collections of short stories, his works are mostly about religion and spiritual growth. Some of his important books are as follows: Major Religions of India, J. Krishnamurti as I Knew Him, Living and Dying from Moment to Moment, That Pathless Land, Bliss of Reality, Homage to Yogaswami, Servant of God and The Higher Life.
These essays deal with the lives and teachings of ten remarkable spiritual masters of our time.
Like the divinely inspired prophets in days of yore, these latter-day sages have also been showing us the superiority of the spiritual and the eternal over the mundane and the transient. That the path of righteousness leads to peace, happiness and salvation is part and parcel of their timeless message.
Most of these divine messengers were so influential that they somehow succeeded in changing the outlook on life of many people. Indeed some of their noble qualities such as altruism and compassion rubbed off onto a few of their followers. Although I never managed to ascend to their celestial heights, their words and deeds have certainly had a _ great impact on my inner life and being. Consequently, I felt impelled to record these facts, especially because I had the chance to know some of them in person. Bishrul Hafi is an old friend; meeting Yogaswami thrice and having conversations with this reclusive mystic was a privilege indeed; I have not only attended lectures on religious subjects given by Swami Sivananda and Swami Ramdas but I have also corresponded with the former. My reminiscences of these great and unforgettable men of God are included in this volume in order to enhance its value.
